There aren’t many locations in Sri Lanka that can match the scenic splendor of the majestic Castlereagh reservoir and its surrounding valley, and this just happens to be the view of Camellia Hills, a beautiful 5-bedroom luxury bungalow.
If you want to live the life of a modern-day tea planter sipping hot tea while gazing at a mirror-still reservoir and lush green mountains covered in mist then this is the place for you! Situated inside the Dunkeld Estate in Dick-Oya, Camellia Hills is approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes away from Colombo via Hatton/ Nuwara Eliya highway.
Reached by a 2-mile bumpy track, this luxurious bungalow is set among the emerald carpeted hillsides of Sri Lanka’s Golden valley of esteemed tea plantations. This homely bungalow has 5 uniquely designed bedrooms, each cozily furnished in a contemporary style. Out of the 5 rooms, four have stellar views of the Castlereagh reservoir and its surroundings.
This cleverly designed bungalow has a central chimney with a cozy fireplace with shelves filled with books and elegant furniture. Woollen blankets are provided for chilly evenings and guests can gather around the fireplace for an intimate evening.
In the garden lies a 10-metre infinity swimming pool and a relaxation ambalama for absorbing the scene.
There are 5 individual timber-floored bedrooms at Camellia Hills. The three Lakeview Bedrooms and two Camellia Bedrooms all offer panoramic views to all its guests. Bedrooms are all distinct in layout and design, yet equally comfortable and luxurious.
The room we stayed at was one of the Lakeview Bedrooms (Warleigh) opening into the garden below and offering splendid views of the surroundings. The room was spacious and beautifully and tastefully decorated with a combination of modern and colonial era furniture.
All members of staff at Camellia Hills is there to serve you the best way possible. We received a warm welcome at the bungalow on the day of our arrival and we were properly taken care of throughout our two-night stay at Camellia Hills.
We went on FB basis so had all 3 meals at the hotel. And all 3 meals (each course) served on both days were quite good but was a little lacking in flavor. Everything was beautifully presented, and breakfast was such a treat with all the homemade jams and marmalades served with warm and buttery croissants.
A dip in the shimmering infinity pool by the edge of the property offering panoramic views of the Castlereagh Valley is a must if you visit Camellia Hills. It is definitely going to be an unforgettable experience for you.
The fresh mountain climate makes venturing outside a breeze. Hence here’s a list of things you may take part in if you visit this beautiful property.
